Hatfield built the design around Jordan's global icon status, embedding multilingual text on the outsole to represent his worldwide reach. The University Blue colorway draws its inspiration from the Orlando Magic player-exclusive era of the shoe, referencing the PE versions worn by players like Penny Hardaway.

The upper pairs perforated white leather with black speckled overlays and rope laces through molded plastic eyelets — a hallmark of the AJ9's one-pull lacing system.
