On June 11, 1997, Michael Jordan wore these black-and-red 12s through Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz while battling severe flu-like symptoms, delivering 38 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists to lead the Chicago Bulls to a pivotal victory. The performance — and the shoe on his feet — became inseparable in both sports and sneaker culture.

The 2025 retro marks the fifth return of the "Flu Game" colorway, originally released in 1997 and retroed in 2003, 2009, and 2016. This iteration features an updated shape with OG branding and Nike Air detailing on the insole, remaining faithful to the original design without aged or "Reimagined" accents. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the Air Jordan 12 silhouette drew upper panel inspiration from the flared rays of the Japanese rising-sun flag, a detail that gives the shoe its signature structured, paneled look.

The upper is constructed from premium black tumbled leather, with varsity red carried across the textured reptile-finish mudguard, midsole, Jumpman branding, and heel tab. A carbon fiber shank plate runs through the midsole for structural support, and the rubber outsole continues the two-tone black-and-red theme.
