The Nike Air Max 90 Supernova is part of Nike's "Supernova 2020" collection, released June 20, 2020 to mark the Air Max 90's 30th anniversary. The shoe revives the "Galaxy" theme Nike first made iconic on the Air Foamposite One during the 2012 NBA All-Star lineup, applying that interplanetary aesthetic to one of the brand's most enduring silhouettes. The hangtag reads "SN.2020," a nod to supernova SN2020bio, which was discovered earlier that year.

The upper pairs black, white, and multicolor leather and textile panels, with soft underlays featuring a galaxy-like print of blue, black, red, pink, and white. The multi-color galaxy graphic spans the toe box, tongue, and ankle collar, contrasted by black mudguards, midfoot overlays, and laces.
