Air Jordan 5 Retro "Fire Red" Black Tongue (2025)
The Air Jordan 5 Retro Fire Red Black Tongue is one of the most storied colorways in the Air Jordan lineup. Originally released in 1990 alongside the silhouette's debut, this version features the black tongue that distinguished it from the silver-tongued variant of the same era — and it hasn't returned in this form since 2013. The 2025 retro drops as part of the Air Jordan 5's 35th anniversary, alongside the Black Metallic Reimagined and Grape colorways.
Tinker Hatfield's design drew inspiration from WWII fighter jets, resulting in aggressive construction details that were groundbreaking for their time: a jagged "shark-tooth" midsole in Fire Red, vented side and tongue panels, a bump-out collar, and a translucent icy outsole with Jumpman branding. The 2025 edition restores the original "Nike Air" heel branding — absent from prior retros — along with the embroidered "23" on the lateral heel. Visible Nike Air cushioning rounds out the OG build.
The White/Fire Red/Black colorway pairs a premium white leather upper with bold Fire Red midsole detailing and black accents throughout, making this release a faithful tribute to one of basketball sneaker culture's definitive designs.
