Jordan 13 Retro "Obsidian" — Charlotte Hornets-Inspired Fall 2021 Release

The Air Jordan 13 Retro "Obsidian" dropped on September 18, 2021, as part of Jordan Brand's Fall 2021 lineup. Its White/Obsidian-Dark Powder Blue colorway draws clear inspiration from Charlotte Hornets team colors, pairing a tumbled white leather upper with deep obsidian underlays and light blue Jumpman embroidery on the tongue. The color blocking draws comparisons to the classic Jordan 13 "He Got Game" in its two-tone contrast approach.

The AJ13 silhouette itself debuted in 1997, designed by Tinker Hatfield and inspired by Michael Jordan's "Black Cat" persona. Hatfield translated Jordan's panther-like court presence into every structural detail: a segmented outsole modeled on a panther's paw for multi-directional grip, a holographic cat's-eye on the ankle that shifts color with viewing angle, a carbon fiber shank plate for stability, and Zoom Air cushioning underfoot. The "Obsidian" colorway preserves all of these signature elements on the Retro build.
